Azealia Banks Bashes Kendrick Lamar
Azealia Banks quotes Kendrick Lamar while dissing the TDE rapper.
Azealia Banks quotes Kendrick Lamar from an article in Billboard in a tweet she made today (January 9) where she blasts the Compton, California rapper.
In an interview with Billboard that was published today, the TDE rapper discusses the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
“I wish somebody would look in our neighborhood knowing that it’s already a situation, mentally, where it’s fucked up,” Kendrick Lamar
says. “What happened to [Michael Brown] should’ve never happened.
Never. But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect
them to respect us? It starts from within. Don’t start with just a
rally, don’t start from looting — it starts from within.”
Banks used some of Kendrick’s comments in her first tweet about them.
“”When we don’t respect ourselves how can
we expect them to respect us” dumbest shit I’ve ever heard a black man
say,” Banks wrote.
She then ties his comments into American history.
“Lol do you know about the generational
effects of poverty, racism and discrimination?”she wrote. “There are
things in society that benefit a select few of us. fine…. But don’t
put down the rest by saying they don’t respect themselves.”
Banks then blasted Kendrick Lamar for sharing his thoughts with a “white publication,” among other things.
Banks’ tweets are as follows:
