Researchers from McGill University believe they’ve discovered a
method to figure out if a guy may be boyfriend material. And all you
need is a ruler.
GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER. It has to do with finger length. According to the new study, published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, men whose ring fingers are longer than their pointers are nicer to women.
The research was based on 155 men and women recording their social
interactions over three weeks. The guys with longer ring fingers
compared to their index fingers were roughly 30% more agreeable.
“[M]en with smaller ratios were more likely to listen attentively, smile and laugh, compromise or compliment the other person,” concluded psychology professor Debbie Moskowitz, the study’s lead author.
However, the difference wasn’t apparent when these men interacted
with other males. These findings correspond with prior research that
concluded men with a smaller ring-to-index-digit ratio tend to have more
children. And it’s all determined by hormone exposure while developing
in the womb. “It is fascinating to see that moderate variations of
hormones before birth can actually influence adult behavior in a
selective way,” professor Simon Young added.
So guys, next time you crash and burn in a relationship, people will
probably tell you to take a good, hard look at yourself in the mirror to
figure out what went wrong — but maybe you should just take a good,
hard look at your hands?
Of course, there’s probably a lot more to personality than mere
finger length, so we’re guessing you shouldn’t make relationship choices
based on that alone. Still, E.T. must’ve been a very sh-tty boyfriend.
