Manchester United captain Rooney lauds ‘greatest manager of all time’ Sir Alex Ferguson

Rooney and Ferguson appear to have buried the hatchet

Wayne Rooney appears to have buried the hatchet with Manchester United great Sir Alex Ferguson by declaring him the ‘greatest manager of all time’.
Following his last Old Trafford game in 2013, Ferguson insisted Rooney had requested a transfer for the second time in his United career and advised the club to sign Robert Lewandowski.
Ferguson documented the pair’s strained relationship in an entire chapter dedicated to Rooney in his second autobiography two years ago, when he recalled how the striker told him the club should have ‘pursued’ Mesut Ozil in 2010 and described Rooney as ‘not the quickest learner’.
However, Ferguson spoke glowingly about Rooney on the eve of England’s latest round of Euro 2016 qualifiers and the United captain played down the pair’s past differences.
“I don’t know if anyone knows how things ended (between us),” Rooney said ahead of England’s home game with Switzerland tonight.
