Following the judgement of the Taraba State election tribunal, All Progressive Congress candidate, Senator Aisha Alhassan has emerged the first female governor in Nigeria.
According to multiple reports, the declaration of Darius Ishaku of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Taraba State governorship election by INEC, was upturned by the election tribunal early on Saturday, November 7, 2015.
The tribunal reportedly sacked Mr Ishaku as governor and declared Senator Alhassan, who  is a ministerial designate, the duly elected governor of the election.
With this victory, Senator Alhaassan will become the only and first female governor in Nigeria’s history of democracy.
Before now, Anambra State deputy governor, Virginia Etiaba had served as governor following the impeachment of Governor Peter Obi but this was not to stay long as an appeal court nullified the impeachment, thus ending her tenure abruptly.
