Despite the monumental mistake made on live television just a few days ago by host and comedian, Steve Harvey at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant held in Las Vegas, Nevada, it is possible that Harvey will return as host of the Miss Universe 2016 pageant.
According to one of the producers of the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, Steve Harvey is more than welcome to host the show again next year.
“I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back,” Mark Shapiro, the producer, said on The Jim Rome Show. “He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself.”
Host, Steve Harvey made a wrong call and announced Miss Colombia, (Ariadna Gutierrez) the winner of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant instead of Miss Philippines (Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach) who was the rightful winner.
According to a snapchat video of the show, the comedian was heard blaming the error on the teleprompter but later publicly took responsibility for the mistake by explaining that he had misread his cue card.
He has since apologized profusely to the beauty queens of both countries in person as well as online, and it is Shapiro’s belief that fans will definitely forgive him for the error in the future.
“Look, the world forgives, the world forgets. It could happen to the best of us,” Shapiro said. “He was so well intended, and he’s such a good guy, and it was really such a mistake that I hope people don’t hold this over him other than for just a good laugh and let it pass.”
Harvey had told reporters at a press conference after the show that, “The dishonorable thing would be to just leave it like it was. It didn’t deserve to happen that way, but it happened from an honest mistake.”
But the mistake still left a great amount of emotional pain for mistakenly crowned Miss Colombia who posted a touching message on her Instagram page thanking her supporters and later retreated to Miami to spend a few days relaxing with her family before returning to Colombia where she later plans to address the media concerning the incident.
Steve Harvey’s wife, Marjorie, had also taken to her Instagram account to show support for her husband after the incident. Posting a picture of the pair from the red carpet of the event, she expressed how proud she was of him for owning up to his mistake and taking responsibility for the error made.
