Mikel To Wear Armguard Against Argentina As Rohr Urges Eagles to ‘Shoot At Sight’

Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel would play against Argentina in the make-or-mar last match in the group games of the Russia World Cup on Tuesday in St Petersburg.

There were fears the Tiajin Teda midfielder would miss the clash after sustaining a wrist injury during Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on Friday.

But a source from the Eagles camp said yesterday that the skipper would wear a protective arm guard in the battle against Argentina, Vanguard writes.

“The injury is not as we first thought. Mikel has a Lion-heart. He’ll be wearing an arm guard to play the match”, our source disclosed.

Meanwhile, head coach Gernot Rohr has admitted that the Super Eagles must be on the attack against Argentina and diligently take the chances that come their way if they are to advance to the knockout rounds.

“It will be a tough game and we must go with a tough mentality from the start to the end,” he said.

Argentina have had the upper hand in meeting between the sides at the Fifa World Cup, winning all four previous clashes by one-goal margin.

But the Eagles beat them 4-2 in a friendly last year, and will be hoping for a repeat when they clash in St Petersburg Tuesday.
