President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a new list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, expanding on the earlier submission of three names.

In two letters addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu requested speedy consideration and approval of 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadors. Among these nominees is Anambra-born Barrister Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu, who appears on the distinguished list of non-career ambassadorial selections.

The updated list includes four women among the career nominees and six women among the non-career nominees, demonstrating a broader gender representation in the latest appointments.

Among the non-career nominees are prominent figures such as Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia, former presidential aide Reno Omokri (Delta), former INEC Chairman Mahmud Yakubu, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo, and former Enugu Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Also listed are former Katsina House of Assembly Speaker Tasiu Musa Maigari, former Plateau Commissioner Yakubu N. Gambo, and former UBEC Deputy Executive Secretary Musa Maigari. Additional nominees include former Plateau Senator Professor Nora Ladi Daduut, former Lagos Deputy Governor Otunba Femi Pedro, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and Anambra’s Barrister Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu, who now awaits Senate confirmation.

Other notable nominees are former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi, former Lagos Commissioner Lola Akande, former Adamawa Senator Grace Bent, former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim of Ondo State, and former Ambassador to the Holy See Paul Oga Adikwu of Benue State.

Career ambassadorial nominees include Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia), Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba), Maimuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa), Musa Musa Abubakar (Kebbi), Syndoph Paebi Endoni (Bayelsa), Chima Geoffrey Lioma David (Ebonyi), and Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim (Ogun). Others named are Abimbola Samuel Reuben (Ondo), Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah (Edo), Hamza Mohammed Salau (Niger), and Ambassadors Shehu Barde, Ahmed Mohammed Monguno, Muhammad Saidu Dahiru, Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari, and Wahab Adekola Akande.

The new ambassadors, once confirmed, will be assigned to countries with strong diplomatic ties to Nigeria, including China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, the UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, as well as multilateral missions such as the UN, UNESCO, and the African Union.

President Tinubu earlier sent a list of three ambassadorial nominees—Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu, and Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are—who may be posted to the United States, the United Kingdom, or France after their Senate approval.

According to Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, more ambassadorial nominees will be announced soon.
