The AFCON 2025 quarter-final line-up is becoming clearer following Algeria’s qualification after their Round of 16 victory over DR Congo on Tuesday.
With Algeria’s progress, seven of the eight teams have now secured places in the quarter-finals of Africa’s biggest football tournament.
Algeria booked their spot with a 1–0 extra-time win in Rabat, as substitute Anis Boulbina scored the decisive goal in the 119th minute. The victory sets up a high-profile quarter-final clash with Nigeria.
Nigeria had already sealed their place in the AFCON 2025 quarter-final line-up on Monday night after an emphatic 4–0 win over Mozambique, with Victor Osimhen netting twice for the Super Eagles.
Earlier, Senegal, Mali, host nation Morocco, Cameroon and Egypt had all confirmed their progression to the last eight.
Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire were the final team to complete the AFCON 2025 quarter-final line-up, following a commanding 3–0 victory over Burkina Faso on Tuesday night in Marrakesh.
Goals from Amad Diallo (20’), Yan Diomandé (32’) and a late strike by Bamba Touré (87’) sealed the win, as the Ivorians delivered a composed performance to underline their title credentials. Côte d’Ivoire will now face Egypt in a blockbuster quarter-final on Saturday in Agadir, as they push for back-to-back AFCON titles.
