NELFUND Opens 2025/2026 Student Loan Application Portal — Apply Now
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, providing financial assistance to students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, the application window will run from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.
This initiative aims to ensure that no Nigerian student is denied access to higher education due to financial hardship.
How to Apply for NELFUND Student Loans
NELFUND advised all fresh students to apply through the official student loan portal using their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a matriculation number.
The loan covers tuition and other approved academic-related expenses, helping undergraduates and postgraduate students pursue their studies without financial disruption.
Applicants are encouraged to visit the official NELFUND loan portal within the stipulated timeframe to submit their information accurately.
Institutions Urged to Support Applicants Awaiting Loan Disbursement
The agency appealed to tertiary institutions to demonstrate flexibility regarding registration and fee payment deadlines, especially for students awaiting loan disbursement.
“Institutions are encouraged to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement,” the statement read.
NELFUND also requested that institutions yet to begin their 2025/2026 academic session formally communicate their academic calendar to the agency to allow scheduling flexibility.
Temporary Registration Measures Encouraged
To avoid any disruption in students’ education, NELFUND urged universities and polytechnics to adopt temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are still being processed.
“No student should lose access to education due to financial constraints,” NELFUND emphasized, calling for collective responsibility between the agency and tertiary institutions to promote equitable access to higher learning.
