Nigeria Will Lend to Other Nations by 2026 – First Lady, Remi Tinubu Predicts

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the country is headed toward an era of major economic prosperity—one she believes will position Nigeria to lend money to other nations by 2026.

She made the remark on Sunday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, shortly after receiving the distinguished chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua. The honour was conferred on her during celebrations marking the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

Dignitaries Grace the Ceremony

The well-attended event brought together top political leaders, former officeholders, and revered traditional rulers from across Nigeria.

Prominent guests included:

  • Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
  • Wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima
  • Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan
  • Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke
  • Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu
  • Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun
  • Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole

Others in attendance were former governors, deputy governors, state assembly leaders, and respected Yoruba and other traditional rulers such as:

  • The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar
  • The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III
  • The Orangun of Ila, Oba Abdulwahab Oyedotun
  • The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye

“Nigeria’s Joy Has Come” — Oluremi Tinubu

Addressing the gathering, Senator Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Ooni for the honour and offered a message of hope regarding Nigeria’s economic future.

“Nigeria’s joy has come. Those who are wondering how we intend to do it, we will show them. By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity; we will be lending to other nations,” she said.

Speaking partly in Yoruba, she emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration would achieve milestones that many previously thought impossible.

Ooni of Ife Praises First Lady’s Support

Earlier in his remarks, the Ooni praised Senator Tinubu for the support she has shown the throne since he ascended it. He also acknowledged the enduring role of former President Obasanjo in supporting the traditional institution.

The Sultan of Sokoto offered prayers for the Ooni’s long reign and asked Nigerians to pray for their leaders so they can guide the nation in the right direction.

Governor Adeleke Commends Ooni’s Leadership

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, highlighted the Ooni’s modern approach to traditional leadership, describing him as a monarch who has redefined the role and elevated Yoruba culture globally.

Adeleke noted that the state government is working closely with the Ooni to upgrade Ile-Ife as the cultural capital of the Yoruba people. He cited infrastructure projects—including 14 completed roads and the soon-to-be-finished first-ever flyover in Ile-Ife—as part of his administration’s development agenda.
