OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health to Deliver Personalized Wellness Guidance
OpenAI has unveiled the ChatGPT Health feature, a new dedicated space within ChatGPT designed to offer more personalized health and wellness guidance by combining user health data with the platform’s AI capabilities.
The company announced the launch in a January 2026 blog post, noting that health and wellness questions are among the most frequent uses of ChatGPT, with over 230 million users worldwide seeking health-related information every week.
What OpenAI says about ChatGPT Health
According to OpenAI, the ChatGPT Health feature allows users to securely link medical records and wellness apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, enabling responses that are informed by personal health information rather than generic data.
The company emphasized that ChatGPT Health is not a replacement for professional medical care and is not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions.
Instead, the feature is designed to help users understand long-term health patterns, manage everyday wellness questions, and feel better prepared for discussions with healthcare providers.
OpenAI added that health conversations take place in a separate, privacy-enhanced environment. Data shared within ChatGPT Health is not used to train its foundation models, and users engaging in health-related chats are prompted to move into the Health space for added protection.
Built with medical expertise
The ChatGPT Health feature was developed in collaboration with more than 260 physicians across 60 countries. These experts reviewed over 600,000 AI-generated responses to ensure the system meets high standards for safety, clarity, and accuracy.
OpenAI said this collaboration helped determine when the AI should urge users to seek professional care, how to communicate health information clearly, and how to prioritize safety during sensitive situations.
Availability and access
ChatGPT Health is currently being rolled out to a limited group of early users. OpenAI stated that users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans can join the waitlist, except those located in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Some features, including medical record integrations, are currently available only in the United States, while connecting Apple Health requires an iOS device.
OpenAI plans to expand access to the ChatGPT Health feature on the web and iOS platforms in the coming weeks as the system continues to evolve.
What you should know
As of December 2025, ChatGPT has surpassed 800 million weekly active users, doubling from around 400 million earlier in the year. This rapid growth highlights the platform’s expanding role in everyday decision-making, productivity, and information access.
OpenAI also reported having over one million business customers, driven by enterprise tools such as ChatGPT for Work and workflow integrations.
Beyond ChatGPT Health, the company has recently introduced ChatGPT Pulse, a personalized daily updates assistant, along with enhanced deep research tools and AI agents capable of handling tasks independently for Plus and Pro users.
