Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Confirms ₦200 billion Defamation Suit Filed by Senate President Akpabio

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has revealed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit against her over the sexual harassment allegations she previously made against him.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan disclosed that the suit was filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja. She also shared a court order issued by Justice U.P. Kekemeke, directing that she be served through substituted means via the Clerk of the National Assembly.

The court order, dated November 6, indicates that the case is scheduled to begin on January 21, 2026.

According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, the lawsuit now offers her an opportunity to present evidence regarding her claims of sexual harassment.

“Today, the 5th of December 2025, I received the newly instituted ₦200 billion suit filed by Senator Godswill Akpabio, accusing me of defamation regarding sexual harassment,” she wrote.

She explained that the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges previously refused to hear her complaint because Akpabio’s wife had already filed a defamation case against her, which they claimed prevented them from addressing the issue. Akpoti-Uduaghan added that she was unable to take the matter to court earlier because Senate rules require her to first present her case before the committee— the same committee that had recommended her “illegal suspension.”

“Now, I finally have the chance to prove the sexual harassment I experienced and how rejecting his advances led to a series of unprovoked attacks against me,” she added.

Earlier in February, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged in an interview that Akpabio made sexual advances toward her both in his office and at his residence in Akwa Ibom. She claimed her challenges in the Senate escalated after she declined his advances.

Akpabio has denied all allegations.
