World Bank Approves $2.1bn Loans for Nigeria

The World Bank announced yesterday that it approved $2.1 billion in concessionary loans to fund projects in Nigeria aimed at improving access to electricity and promoting governance. It said the loans approved by the International Development Association (IDA), the bank’s low-interest arm, are expected to support Nigeria’s economic growth plan. In addition to the loans, it also approved a $7m grant for nutrition. More than 100 people have been reported dead after an attack on three local governments in Plateau State. According to The Cable, the attacks have been blamed on suspected Fulani herdsmen. The National Business and Technical Examinations Board has suspended its registrar, Prof Ifeoma Abanihe, and four directors over their failure to account for N49m contracts awarded by the examination body. The Aliko Dangote Foundation on Monday inaugurated the Dangote Village built for the Internally Displaced Persons in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
