A heavy blow has been struck to the art of DJing worldwide.
While dreams and encouragement are definitely necessary factors to achieving success as a DJ later in life, those individuals have likely put in more than three years of work, sweat and tears into their craft and passion.
Last night, 3-year-old DJ Arch Jnr was named the winner of South Africa’s Got Talent, making him the youngest winner globally in the series. His “talent” was DJing, which he performed on his first appearance, earning him the “golden buzzer” and sending him straight to the semi-finals.
His parents say that he’s been DJing since a “very early age,” but at only three years old, that expression is relative. Watching his performance seems more like a talent show at a camp, rather than an internationally syndicated television program with a $35,000 USD prize. And with his growing popularity, the youngster has gained endorsements “from Guess Kids, Beats By Dre, Mini Cooper and Djay Software.” Any money he earns from “sponsorships, donations, [and] earnings” will “be used to improve his living standards and further his educational needs.”
